Jewelry

Here is another post in my Conversation Ideas series.

Do you like jewelry a lot? What kind do you like? Did you wear a lot of gold jewelry at your wedding? If you are invited to a party here do you wear some of your wedding jewelry? Does a woman receive a diamond ring from the man when they get engaged in your culture?

Talk about different kinds of jewels or gemstones such as: diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, pearls, etc. Perhaps you can show her a book that shows different kinds. What is the word for jewel or gem in your language? Do you wear a special gem that indicates which month you were born in? Do people in your country ever wear artificial gems or gold? Can you trust that the gems you buy in a store in your country are 100% pure?

Where do you think the highest quality of gold can be found? Do any of the gems or jewels have special meaning to you?

Have jewels or gemstones been discovered in your country?

Talk about the process of how a genuine pearl is formed. Is anything written in the Qur’an about pearls? Our holy book, the Bible, says quite a bit about gold and pearls and other gems. (You could read verses from Revelation about gems).

There is an idiom in English that says “she is such a gem” which means she is a beautiful, kind and loving person. A gem or jewel connotes value and beauty and high price. God thinks of you as a jewel. What do you think about that? Do you feel Allah looks at you like that?

You could share Jesus’ words in Matthew 13: 45-46 and discuss what it might mean to her. Or you could share and discuss the meaning of the story of the woman who lost one coin of her head wedding band and searched for it until she found it(Luke 15: 8-10).
